“With some level of relief, I uploaded a final version of my talk to YouTube for the TEDxWilmington organizers to review. I am quite happy with it, but will it pass the sniff test of the people that have brought so many great talks to the world?

What a ride. I cannot even remember the last time I spent so much time on one presentation. Who would have thought that it was so much work to present one little idea worth spreading in less than 15 minutes? It reminded me of the saying ‘If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter’, Blaise Pascal coined in 1657.

Every spare minute of the last two weekends and many late evening hours for the past two weeks, I spent fine tuning something I knew a lot about and something I had worked on and presented many times for many years. I tortured many poor people presenting yet another slightly modified version of the same presentation. But let it be known: I am grateful for every morsel of advice TEDxWilmington, my family and many friends and colleagues have graciously shared with me. One evening, we reached a point when my daughter and my wife threatened to move out if they had to listen to my talk one more time.

At this juncture, I thought it would be wise to simply record videos and watch the talk myself. Humbling experience, but well worth it, because you will always find a small thing to improve. But now it is done. All that remains is to worry ‘just a little’ if my idea is really worth spreading. I think it is, but ultimately, the many knowledgeable fans of TEDx and TEDxWilmington will be the judge of it, in just eleven days from now…”
