“There is less than a week from my first ever TEDx event and I am a huge mix of emotions. I am so excited because this is going to be a great experience but I am also very nervous because of the high stakes of this event. I have been practicing a lot and feel pretty prepared but I am still nervous about day of jitters.

The second half of this experience has been a lot more stressful than the first half because of my concussion. I found myself being quite anxious and a bit overwhelmed because I feel that I am behind most of the other speakers. I learned about how to get rights to a picture and also how to improvise. It has been pretty difficult to find pictures that I didn’t need to pay over 100 dollars to use, so I got creative and took my own photos.

Having a mentor really has helped. Dr. Missimer has been great if I have any questions she is there to help, and that is really comforting. My mom has been really helpful as well. She has helped me write and type while I dictated because for a chunk of the process I wasn’t allowed to read or write. My injury has definitely held me back a little but I am proud of myself pushing through. This talk has taken a lot of hard work and I really hope it pays off this weekend!”
