My experience of being a TEDx speaker is like a dream come to life. Knowing my background of education, where I came from, and where I am today, is nothing short of amazing.
I’ve heard of TEDx and seen many tapes and pictured myself on TEDx, but it seems like it was so far away. From the first email on April 23, 2016 about being a part of TEDx, to submitting and being qualified for TEDx, is beyond a dream come true. It was made more real after I spent over an hour talking to a professional speech coach named Dr. Robyn Odegaard, who took me under her wing. She has guided many people and helped them deliver the best TEDx talks ever. To have that kind of focus on me makes me feel very fortunate.
I was thinking it was going to be easy. It’s hard, yet fun, and because I’m having fun while preparing for TEDx, it’s becoming easier for me. The journey so far on the road to TEDx has been amazing, and if I’m dreaming, I don’t want to wake up until it’s over, and if I do wake up and realize it’s a dream, that will suck, but I’ll admit it’s the best dream ever. My journey so far on the road to TEDxWilmington has been a fantastic one.
This series of blogs captures the firsthand reactions of the speakers who were selected (from a field of more than 100 applicants) to give talks at the TEDxWilmington Conference on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the World Cafe Live at the Queen. Tickets are on sale here.
