If you want to be blown away by inspiring stories of people who have courageously transformed personal suffering into triumph and gone on to help others do the same, watch a TEDx talk.
If you yourself have a story to tell that could inspire and mobilize others to better their lives, give a TEDx talk.
You will have to commit to months of hard work, writing and fine-tuning the script of your talk, learning it by heart, and then delivering it effortlessly (I highly recommend you use a coach to guide and support you). But do it! You won’t regret it.
As I prepared for my TEDxWilmington talk, my emotions, like a roller coaster, zigzagged from stress to excitement. Stress, because I never thought I’d be able to learn by heart a ten-minute talk, let alone perform it with ease and playfulness. But I did it. Excitement, because it’s such a great feeling to have set a high goal for oneself and then put in the work to make it happen. A great sense of achievement follows.
It was an initiation through fire. The cameras were rolling, the audience was silent in anticipation, and I had all but ten minutes to get this right… no second chance… knowing that this talk will end up on the TEDx YouTube channel for everyone to see and judge forever.
But now I feel greatly fortified from within as a result of having given the talk. I’ve gained confidence as a speaker and am greatly encouraged to continue spreading the message: fulfill your calling and increase you impact in the world by living in spiritual-material balance. I am honored to have shared the stage with a group of remarkable women and men, people like you and me who are committed to making a difference.
