Twenty five years ago, when Kevin agreed to arrive for his freshman year at Elon College a week early to volunteer to build homes with 15 other first year students, he had no idea that this would lead to a life, and career, of service. During college, Kevin volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, led service trips around the country, coordinated many local events and served as the coordinator of the campus-based volunteer organization, Elon Volunteers!
After college, Kevin worked with Habitat International at their headquarters in Americus, Georgia where he provided leadership consulting to college Campus Chapters of Habitat around the country. From there, he went on to serve with Habitat for four years in Guatemala. During his time in Guatemala, he started in the national office by serving as a liaison with their international partners. He then developed the Global Village hosting program to receive approximately 30 mission teams a year to help build homes. In his last year, he led an $8 million, multi-year capital campaign to raise funds to build more homes.
In 2003, Kevin returned to his home state of Delaware to attend graduate school. While working towards his Master of Public Administration degree at the University of Delaware, Kevin served as a graduate student with Public Allies Delaware where he focused on non-profit management and building volunteer programs.
After graduate school, Kevin came to work with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity in 2004 as their first paid employee. The organization now has 22 employees and 20 AmeriCorps members who work with over 3500 volunteers a year to carry out its mission of building homes communities and hope. Kevin is leading the organization through an evolution moving it from a nonprofit home builder to a neighborhood revitalization specialist, using its homebuilding and volunteer mobilization experience to bring communities together.
Kevin grew up in Milford, Delaware and is pleased to be in Sussex County serving the community that nurtured him as a youth.
